Grit & Grace and the Goal to Breastfeed
Speaker: Elisa Doherty, OTR/L, IBCLC
August 24, 2022
1 pm - 2 pm EST
The concept of infant feeding and the ease in which expectant parents predict this process to go is often a very different reality for the NICU baby. In this course, the NICU professional will gain knowledge for assessment and intervention to increase success in breastfeeding. This course will focus on infant feeding development in relation to both bottle and breastfeeding; as well as attributes of the mother’s role in her medical history, maternal anatomy, milk supply, and how that impacts the breastfeeding journey. The learner will gain improved knowledge for evaluation and intervention to provide the infant AND the mother, as a dyad, with developmentally appropriate goals, modifiers for improved bottle to breast transitioning, and latch strategies for improved milk transfer and reduced stress in an individualized feeding approach.
After attending this webinar, the participant will be able to:
1. List at least two criteria of infant feeding development that impact the long- term success of breastfeeding and offer predictability of goal achievement.
2. Differentiate from maternal descriptors at least two attributes that enhance the Mother’s ability to breastfeed.
